Have it the way you like it

I’ve always wondered why we have more users from East Malaysia, and I was only enlightened when I had to organize a movie outing in Kuala Lumpur. Organizing cinemas based on location was a total pain when I wanted to compare showtimes of a cinema in KL and one in Selangor.

Now you can pick your favourite cinemas so you don’t have to play with the dropdowns ever again. This is definitely a win for our KL/Selangor users especially when using the mobile version of the site.

Head over to Showtimes.my and try it out now

Note : We’ve also improved the performance of the site. Expect faster load times and tell the world because we’re ready to handle more traffic now. =)

Showtimes on the move

Out of all the sites we built, Showtimes.my has always been the most popular and useful. The idea of the site is to present all the movie showtimes in a single and easy to navigate page.

This is all good until you try to load it on your mobile device. The layout of the page wasn’t designed with mobile devices in mind. But no worries, today we are finally launching the Mobile Showtimes.my site.

Mobile Showtimes.my

Now if you are on the road or don’t have access to a computer, whip out your phone and go to http://m.showtimes.my for all your movie showtimes needs.

The site was put together in a night so if you encounter any bugs or issues with the site, drop us a comment here. Thanks!

A brand new start

Flexnode never really have much of an online presence. It is something that we have neglected all this while and it’s time to do something about it. We will post more updates on this blog and revamp our company landing page.

For now, you can check out our latest site, StartNOW which aims to be an online community for entrepreneurs. We hope to inspire action and make ideas happen. If you are an action-taker or an idea-crafter, do join us and inspire us with your awesome work.

Minor updates for showtimes

There was one feature on Showtimes.my that many didn’t notice or understood. We had this arrow on the top right corner of each movie. Clicking on it will move the movie to the top of the page. The idea is to ‘sticky’ the movie so you can compare between movies you are interested in easily. We felt the feature was useful but wasn’t implemented correctly, so we did some changes.

  1. The arrows are now pins. This gives user a cue on what exactly it does.
  2. Pinned movies have a different color pin. A visual cue that the movie is pinned.
  3. Notifications when you click on the pin. Since the movie is moved to the top, a notification is shown to let user know what happened.
  4. Ability to unpin a movie.
  5. Remember the order of movies pinned between page reloads. This was especially important when you are changing dates or cities.

We hope you like this ‘revamped’ pinning feature and do give us some feedback in the comments.

Showtimes done right

Finally, after 2-3 weeks working on this during our free time, we present you Showtimes.my. This is our take on improving the experience of browsing for showtimes online.

Showtimes.my

Here are some of the little touches we added.

  1. Showtimes highlighting. We grey out those time that’s in the past and focus your attention on upcoming showtimes.
  2. Filtering cinemas is purely using Javascript so there’s no load time.
  3. RottenTomatoes freshness ratings. (Note: only on movies that are listed on RT)
  4. Large poster image because its pretty

Currently, we are getting showtimes from a few sources and it seems sometimes they can be wrong. Still have yet to figure out a solution. We wish every cinema have some sort of showtime feed. Tell us what you think/report bugs about the site in the comments.
